2019-05-07 Tue
France released three commemorative coins dedicated to Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. The 850-year-old church was ruined after it was engulfed by a devastating fire on 15th April. Money raised by selling the coins would be donated for the historic church’s reconstruction. The coin designs are inspired from a 2013 coin that was issued to commemorate the 850th anniversary of the cathedral. The obverse side depicts highlights of the gothic-style architecture of the cathedral, like gargoyles, towers and the centre of its rose window. Other texts include “15/04/2019 Reconstruction” and “Notre-Dame de Paris”. The reverse side depicts the denomination, 2019 and UNESCO logo.
The 22.2 grams Proof .900 fine silver €10 coin has a diameter of 37 millimetres and a mintage limit of 5,000 pieces. It can be bought for €65, of which €20 will be donated for reconstruction. The 7.78 grams Proof .999 fine gold €50 coin has a diameter of 22 millimetres and a mintage limit of 500 pieces. It can be bought for €550, of which €100 will be donated for reconstruction. The 1 ounce Proof .999 fine gold €200 coin has a diameter of 37 millimetres and a mintage limit of 250 pieces. It can be bought for €2,200, of which €300 will be donated for reconstruction.
