Mongolia is a nation bordered by China and Russia. It is known for its vastness, rugged expanses, and nomadic culture. Its capital, Ulaanbaatar, is centered around the Chinggis Khaan (Genghis Khan) Square, named for the notorious founder of the 13th- and 14th-century Mongol Empire. The togrog or tugrik is the official currency of Mongolia. It was historically subdivided into 100 mongo. Currently, the lowest denomination in regular use is the 10-togrog note and the highest is the 20,000-togrog note.
Today let’s see a 20,000 Togrog banknote issued in the year 2006. The note specifications are as follows:
The front has the portrait of Genghis Khan; Soyombo - the national symbol of Mongolia; Paiza as a see-through feature; a tablet of authority for the Mongol officials and envoys, that enabled the Mongol nobles and officials to demand goods and services from civilian populations.
The reverse has flags and banners of the Golden Horde. This purple-green note has the portrait of Genghis Khan; and "MB" in cyrillic letters – the initials of Mongol Bank, as watermark.
