Peru is a country in South America that's home to a section of Amazon rainforest. It is famous for the Machu Picchu, an ancient Incan city high in the Andes Mountains. The region around Machu Picchu, including the Sacred Valley, Inca Trail and colonial city of Cusco, is rich in archaeological sites. On Peru’s arid Pacific coast in Lima lays the country’s capital, with a preserved colonial centre and important collections of pre-Columbian art.Peruvian sol was the currency of Peru between 1863 and 1985. It was subdivided into 10 dineros or 100 centavos. The banknote depicted in the image beside is 200 Soles de Oro Banknote of 1968. The note specifications are as follows:
The obverse has a fishing scene depicted to left with the portrait of Ramon Castilla, Peruvian caudillo who served as President of Peru three times as well as the Interim President of Peru, to right and the official Coat of Arms in center. The reverse depicts The Frigate "Amazonas" (sailing ship).
