Four Cash of Uthram Thirunal Marthanda Varma

Travancore was a former Hindu feudal kingdom (till 1858) and an Indian princely state that had been ruled by the Travancore Royal Family from the capital at Padmanabhapuram or Thiruvananthapuram.Uthram Thirunal Marthanda Varma was the Maharaja of Travancore. He succeeded his brother in Swathi Thirunal in 1847 and ruled till 1860 AD. Known for his progressive rule, he abolished slavery in the kingdom.
During the reign, he issued copper coins in the denomination of Cash. The above-shown copper 4 cash belong to his reign. This coin portrays the Shri Krishna holding the butter in both hands which are bent forward at the below, Malayalam numeral 4 depicted below on its obverse face. The reverse of a coin has decorated sudarsana chakram within a dotted circle.
The Classical Numismatic Gallery sold this coin from INR 15,000 in an auction held on 19-04-2019.
