Businesses Rejecting Scottish Banknotes
2019-04-26 Fri
Many-a-times, people and businesses from England and Wales don’t accept Scottish banknotes. In fact, a business has the right to decide what payment to accept and what to reject in UK. Royal Mint coins and Bank of England notes are considered to be legal tender in England and Wales. Whereas, only Royal Mint coins are legal tender in Scotland and Northern Ireland, not Bank of England notes. Debit and credit cards are not considered legal tender. Apart from the legal tender status, both parties involved in a transaction must reach an agreement before payment is accepted or rejected. Most Scottish banknotes are issued by Scottish banks and are generally accepted across UK. They are all legal currency approved by the UK Parliament. However, businesses have the right to accept or reject them as a means of payment.
