Deer Featured on Latest Swiss Coins

The Federal Mint Swissmint released a 10-franc bimetallic commemorative collector coin featuring a deer. It's the first release from the "Swiss Forest Animals" three-coin series. Designed by the graphic artist and designer Naomi Andrea Giewald from East Swiss, the coin depicts the head of a roe deer and ribs of a leaf. The hoof marks of a deer are depicted on the outer ring.Deer or Capreolus are found commonly in the Central Plateau and Prealps of Switzerland. These are extremely shy animals which leap high and far at amazing speeds as soon as it senses any danger. A quiet grazing deer can be rarely spotted in the woods.
The nocturnal animals are generally found at the edge of a forest and clearings. They are now also seen in open agricultural land. They can grow up to 1.40 meters in length, .84 meters in height and 34 kilograms in weight. The roebucks have antlers while reindeer don't. The herbivores animals generally like feeding on plants rich in nutrients.
