The new definitive series of the year 1934 come with the same theme. In the mid-1500s Portugal acquired a permanent lease for Macau and set up Portuguese rule over the area. The initially small population of Portuguese merchants rapidly became a growing city. In the following years, the Portuguese brought about many reforms and introduced many administrative changes.
One of which was the postal administration. Established in the late 1800s, the Postal Administration issued its first stamps in the year 1884. Since the time Macau Post issued many stamps in the remembrance of Vasco da Gama’s discovery of the Asian continent. On 1st February 1934, a set of 21 definitive stamps were issued with the same theme.
The stamps were issued with the denominations ranging from half Macanese avo to 5 Macanese patacas. The stamp depicts an allegory of Portugal in the center holding a shield and a sword along with the Vasco da Gama's flagship Sao Gabriel in the background.
The stamps are inscribed with “CORREIO and MACAU” at the top and the denomination value at the bottom.
