Cherrystone’s May Auction Highlights

Cherrystone Philatelic Auctioneers is going to auction several interesting postage stamps on 7th and 8th May in New York City. One of the highlights is 2-penny error stamp featuring a lilac-coloured Swan that was issued for Western Australia in 1879. Originally, the 2 penny stamp is yellow in colour while the lilac colour was assigned for the 6d Swan. The offered stamp is in unused condition without gum. It has a listed market value of $20,000. However, it is difficult to evaluate these stamps accurately. It is being offered at a starting bid of $7,000.Another interesting offering is an unused lightly hinged 5,000-korona dark green and yellow-green error stamp from Hungary featuring Madonna and Child, issued in 1921. The centre of this error stamp is inverted. The offered stamp is well-centred and its colours are fresh. It has a listed market value of $16,000 and is being offered at a starting bid of $14,000.
A rare $2-on-5-lira light blue and rose Victor Emmanuel III stamp issued in 1918 with type II Pechino surcharge for Italy’s offices in China is being offered at a starting bid of $47,500. Only 15 such stamps are found in used, as well as unused condition. The offered stamp is in never hinged condition with full original gum and has a listed market value of $185,000.
