Sikandar Bin Ilyas of Bengal Sultanate

Sikandar Bin Ilyas Shah was the second Sultan of Ilyas Shahi dynasty from 1357 to 1389 AD. He was the son of Shamsuddin Ilyas Shah. His reign is also noted for its grandiose architectural projects. He built the Adina Masjid in Pandua in 1368 and Kotowali Darwaza in Gau?a.During the reign he issued gold and silver Tanka in different fractions. These coins were struck at various mints such as Baldat Mahrusah Firuzabad, Iqlim Muazzamadab, Arsah al-ma Murah Satgaon, Chawalistan Urf Arsah Kamru, Shahr-i-Nau etc.
The above shown silver Tanka was issued in Sikandar bin Ilyas Shah’s reign from Chawalistan 'urf 'Arsah Kamru mint. The obverse of coin has Arabic legend ‘al-Sultan al-'Azam Abu al-Mujahid Sikandar Shah ibnIlyas Shah al-Sultan’. The reverse of a coin also depicted the Arabic legend ‘Yameen Khalifat Allah Nasir Amir al-Mumineen Zall Allah Khilafatahu’ in circle, mint and date details in margin.
