One of the most influential writers of modern Hindi literature, Phanishwar Nath ‘Renu’ died on 11th April 1977. He is best known for promoting the voice of the contemporary rural India. Renu is placed among the best Hindi writers who brought regional voices into mainstream Hindi literature.After the legendary Hindi author Premchand, his works are reckoned as the next brilliant examples of Hindi literature. His some major works are Maila Anchal, Maare Gaye Gulam, and Parti Parikatha.
He is the author of Maila Anchal, which after Premchand’s Godaan, is regarded as the most significant Hindi novel. This path breaking novel brought him one of the highest civilian awards ‘Padma Shri Award’ in 1970.
To honor him India Postal Department has issued 500 Paisa (5 Rupee) commemorative postage stamps in 2016.
