2019-04-10 Wed
Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician, and chemist was born on 10th April 1755. He established a new system of medical treatment call homeopathy.Hahnemann studied medicine at Leipzig and Vienna, taking the degree of M.D. at Erlangen in 1779. He was one of many physicians in the 1700s who set out to explore systematically the use and effects of medical drugs.
Hahnemann was trying to create a new system of medicines that “he believed to be more humane and effective than any known before that time”. He was a great experimenter, original thinker, thorough scientist, a genius who dared to live ahead of his time.
He was regarded as the founder of Homeopathy. He hit upon this while conducting some experiments with cinchona bark in 1790. The first experiments in this connection were published in 1796.
India Postal Department has issued a commemorative postage stamp to mark the XXXII International Homeopathic Congress. The design of the stamp depicts Dr. Samuel Hahnemann alongside is shown cinchona plant.
