Portugal post celebrates abolitions of Slavery

On 25 February 1869, a Decree was passed by which slavery was abolished in all of the territories that composed Portugal. All the slaves were declared free, it was initiated by Marquis of Sa da Bandeira. This aim of the abolition of slavery among human began in Portugal in 1858. These stamps were issued to celebrate the 150th anniversary of this important event.This stamp depicts the old handcuffs and portrayed of the people enslaved during the Atlantic slave trade of which lasted for more than four centuries.
