One of the most distinguished writers of Hindi literature, Makhanlal Chaturvedi was born on 4th April 1889. He was an Indian poet, writer, and journalist.Chaturvedi was born in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. He started his career as a teacher in 1906 but resigned. Later, he edited several journals such as Prabha, Pratap, and Karmaveer. He also participated in various India’s freedom movement. Some of his great works are Him Kirtini, Him Tarangini, Yug Charan, Sahitya Devta, and Venu Lo Gunje Dhara.
Pandit Makhanlal Chaturvedi was the first recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award in Hindi for his work Him Taringini. The Government of India awarded him Padma Bhushan, the second highest civilian award in 1963.
In his memory, the India Postal Department has issue 25 Paisa commemorative postage stamps in 1977.
