The Ottoman Empire was founded at the end of the 13th century in northwestern Anatolia in the town of Sogut by the Turkish tribal leader Osman I. It spanned an area from Hungary in the north to Yemen in the south and from Algeria in the west to Iraq in the east.Ahmed I was a Sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1603 until his death in 1617. He is also well known for his construction of the Blue Mosque, one of the most famous mosques in Turkey.
During the reign, he issued gold and silver coins from mints such as Amid, Belgrad, Constantinople, Serez, Tukat, Trebizium, and Kibris. These coins were issued in the denomination of Akce, Altin, Beshlik, Dirham, and Para.
The above shown gold Altin was also issued on his reign. The obverse of a coin has legend ‘Sultan Ahmed bin Mehmed Han azze nasruhu duribe Saqiz’ 1012.
