Utpal Dutt, the iconic figure in the history of Bengali theatre and Indian Cinema was born on 29th March 1929. He was an Indian actor, director, playwright, and an inspiration and role model for the activist theatre person. Utpal founded the “Little Theatre Group” in 1949, through this he became a pioneering figure in modern Indian Theatre. He was an artist, one that critiqued his own plays and blessed Bollywood with some truely rib ticking and heart-wrenching works, all in his truly magnificent career.Dutt masters various roles of different genres. He works for some classic movies such as Gol Maal, Saheb, Shaukeen, Naram Garam, Hamari Bahu Alka, Kissi Se Na Kehna, The Great Gambler, Rang Birangi, Kissa Kursi Ka, and Joi Baba Felunath.
During lifetime he was honored with some prestigious awards and honors such as 1990 Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship for lifetime contribution to theatre, National Film Award for Best Actor, Filmfare Best Comedian Award, and Bengal Film Journalists Association Award.
India Postal Department issued 5 Rupee commemorative stamps to honor this iconic film personality in 2013.
