Today on this day in 2006, the great Indian philosopher and author, Vethathiri Maharishi passed away. He was a world’s peace saint, the greatest guru, and the Father of Simplified Yoga. Dravidian University acknowledged him as 19th Siddha.Shri Vethathiri Maharishi was born in 1911 in the village of Guduvancheri, Chennai, into an indigent weaver’s family. He could not get proper schooling, but through his intense passion for learning, he started educating himself from a very young age.
He founded over 300 yoga centers around the world and wrote over 80 books in Tamil and English. Maharishi invited to the United Nations to give a talk on the ‘Value of Yoga and Meditation’.
He founded the World Community Service Center having its headquarters at Chennai and Vethathiri Maharishi Yoga and Kaya Kalpa Research Foundation.
In 2010 India Postal Department has issued 5 Rupee commemorative postage stamps in his honor.
