Coinage of Nasir-ad-Daula of Hyderabad Princely State

The Hyderabad was a Princely State situated in the south central region of Indian subcontinent. It was regarded as the largest Princely State of the British Raj. Nasir-ad-Daula was the ruler of Hyderabad state from 1829 to 1857. He was the eldest son of Asaf Jah III.During the reign he issued gold, silver, and copper coins from various mints such as Amravati, Aurangabad, Hyderabad, and Peston Shahi. These coins were struck in the denomination of Mohur, Rupee, and Paisa.
Depicted here is silver half Rupee issued during his reign. This coin was struck in the name of Bahadur Shah and depicted the legend ‘Sikka Mubarak Badshah Gazi Bahadur Shah’ with AH year on its obverse face. The reverse of a coin bore the mint name, RY year, and Julus formula which read as ‘Farkhanda Bunyad Hyderabad Sanah 5 Julus Mainamat Manus’.
