2019-03-22 Fri
PGM certified 253 specimens from Part 1 of the Ibrahim Salem Collection which contains several rare and significant banknotes from the current and earlier territories of the UK. This was PMG’s first London on-site grading event that was organised in January 2019 at NGC International UK Limited (NGC UK) office. The next such on-site grading event will be held in April.81 notes from Bermuda, 32 from the Bahamas, 31 from Gibraltar and 29 from Fiji, issued from the late 1800s to the latest ones were graded. Spink Auction house had submitted these notes which will be offered for sale on 17th April. Part 2 of the sale will be organised later. Mr. Salem has built a collection of 150,000 notes over the last 40 years. Currently, he is focussing on Arab and Middle East issues and is trying to auction his other notes.
One of the highlights from this collection is a One Pound note from Bermuda, issued in 1952, featuring a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and Serial Number 1, graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ. A Five Pound Specimen note from Gibraltar issued from 1958 to 75, graded PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 features the Rock of Gibraltar.
The on-site grading event in London was extremely quick and convenient for the auctioneers. Now that these amazing notes are graded by a reputed grading company, they are expected to be sold for high bids.
