Perth Mint released the second coin from its exclusive series that celebrates the 60th Anniversary of Barbie Doll. The 2oz .9167 Rose Gold Proof Coin with an Argyle pink diamond has a mintage limit of 60 pieces and has been issued as legal tender for Tuvalu Islands with a face value of 500 Tuvaluan Dollars.

Designed by Natasha Muhl, the reverse side depicts Barbie in her first swimsuit outfit. Barbie’s official 60th-anniversary logo with text ‘INSPIRING GIRLS SINCE 1959’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark are also featured on the reverse side. The obverse side depicts an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, denomination, weight, fineness and year date. Each coin comes with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity in a Barbie-themed display case that looks like a handbag. The 62.213 grams coin has a diameter of 41.10 millimetres and a thickness of 4.00 millimetres.

The joint founder of Mattel, Ruth Handler had introduced Barbie Dolls in 1950 at New York Toy Fair. The first doll wore a black-and-white striped swimsuit and became an instant hit. She symbolised the glamorous young women of 1950s, flaunting her typical ponytail, hoop earrings and Vintage sunglasses. Today, there are people who like collecting these beautiful dolls which are available in numerous body types, skin tones, eye-colours and hairstyles as per latest fashion trends across 150 countries.
