Russia Post proudly presents two stamps commemorating two Outstanding Historians. A set of two stamps were issued in Jan 2016 to pay tribute to these outstanding historians, Nikolai M. Karamzin and Vasiliy O. Kluchevskiy.

Born in the wealthy family of a landowner, Nikolai M. Karamzin is considered as the literary activist of Russia who played a major role in the development of Russian literary language. He is best remembered for his History of the Russian State, a 12-volume national history.

Vasiliy O. Kluchevskiy was born in the family of a village priest. He was a leading Russian historian of the late imperial period. Kluchevsky was one of the first Russian historians to shift attention away from political and social issues to geographical and economical forces.

The two significant historians are featured by Russia Post to celebrate the 250th Birth Anniversary of Nikolai M. Karamzin and the 175th Birth Anniversary of Vasiliy O. Kluchevskiy. The stamps feature portraits of both historians with one of their publications on the background.
