2019-03-18 Mon
GreatCollections Coin Auction is offering 26 interesting Chinese pattern coins that were discovered on the East Coast of the United States. The coins are a part of the Cherrywood Collection and the auction will end on 14th and 21st April. The collection of coins, graded and encapsulated by NGC, was owned by one family for decades. Some bronze and silver patterns from the collection were preserved in a cherrywood box and they would be appearing in the market after almost 100 years. Two Flying Dragon dollar pattern coins, struck in Year 3 or 1911 could be sold for more than $100,000, each. The Long-Whiskered Dragon silver dollar pattern, graded NGC Specimen 64, is the finest certified Specimen example at NGC. Only seven such examples have been graded so far. The Large-Tailed Dragon silver dollar pattern, graded NGC Proof 65, would be the first coin of its type to be auctioned in more than 10 years. Unlike the approved design, this example features a dragon with a thicker tail. Only two such coins exist in Proof version and the offered coin is the finest. Both coins feature unique toning that was caused as they were placed inside manila envelopes for the last 100 years. No reserves have been set for any of the coins offered at the auction.
