Jahangir Udisa Mint Silver Rupee

This silver rupee was issued by Mughal Emperor Jahangir form the mint Udisa in the Hijri year 1024 during the 9th year of his reign. The meaning of the word ‘Jahangir’ is ‘Conqueror of the world’. Jahangir ruled the Mughal Empire for about 22 years and in these 22 years of his reign, he had tried to maintain the stability and also succeeded in consolidating the huge empire.Mint Udisa is probably one of the rarest mints of Jahangir in silver coin. It was added to the provision of the Mughal Empire during the end of Akbar’s reign. It was under the control of Gajapati rulers. When came into the reign he had made approximately three campaign to suppress Gajapatis. Jahangir got success during this third campaign which was carried under the commanded by Asaf Khan, the brother of Noor Jahan.
This silver rupee is listed for INR 2,00,000 in the upcoming auction of Classical Numismatic Gallery which will be held in Mumbai on 19th April 2019.
