New Coin Depicts Samson Slaying the Lion
2019-03-16 Sat
APMEX released the 25th coin from its famous Biblical Series recently. Produced by Scottsdale Mint, the new coin is dedicated to the story of Samson slaying the lion. It’s also the first coin of the year from this series. The earlier coins from the series were designed based on different interesting themes such as Noah’s Ark, Nativity, Ten Commandments etc.The 2 oz .999 fine Silver coin comes along with a certificate of authenticity which mentions the coin’s specifications. Verses from the Book of Judges had inspired Gustave Dore to create a wood-engraved scene “Samson Slaying a Lion” in 1865. The same verses along with an image of Dore’s artwork that inspired the coin design are featured on the certificate as well.
Like all other coins from the series, the latest coin also features an antique finish with a high-relief, rimless design. The obverse side depicts a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Raphael Maklouf. The coin’s weight, face value, and purity are also inscribed on the reverse. A unique serial number is engraved on the edge of every coin, ranging from 1 to 1499.
