International Consumer Right Day

The annual occasion for expressing solidarity within the international consumer movement, promoting the basic right of all consumers and a firm reaffirmation that those rights are respected and protected. It was declared by the U.S. President John.F.Kennedy in 1962, thus making it a historic decision consists of four consumer right. This day was first observed on 15th March 1983 by Consumer International ‘CI’ and observes every year all over the world.In 1986, India saw the most significant achievements in the Consumer Movement by the Consumer Protection Act (COPRA). This act proved separate three-tier Quasi-Judicial consumer dispute redressal machinery at the national, state and district level.
India Post also issued a commemorative stamp on the World Consumer Rights Day in 2006. It was released to mark this event which helped in the development and protection of consumer rights.
