The princely state of Kotah lay in the south-east of Rajputana. The state was once a part of the Rajput kingdom of Bundi but became a separate princely state in the 17th century.Chattat Singh ruled the state from 1866 to 1889 AD. During the reign he issued silver coins in the denomination of Nazarana Rupee from Nandgaon mint. One of his Nazarana Rupee was sold for INR 19,200 by Classical Numismatic Gallery. The obverse of a coin has Queen Victoria's titles (from bottom to top: Malikah mu'azzamah Inglistan Badshah Zaman = Her Majesty of England, Monarch of the Age). Mint mark: Cross (in centre). The reverse of a coin has Persian legend Mint name and Julus formula (from bottom to top: Zarb Kotah sanah 30 julus maimanat manus = Struck at Kotah in year 19 of fortunate reign). Mint marks: Homa (sacred fire, in centre left), Trefoil (at right) and Cross (at bottom right).
