2019-03-05 Tue
The Royal Mint has now released more A to Z 10-penny coins for 2019 due to growing demand. Every coin in the series is dedicated to 26 English alphabets and popular symbols of Great Britain starting with those alphabets. The first collection was launched in 2018, which was received well by citizens and coin lovers. 2.1 million coins featuring the same designs are going to be circulated this year. However, the year date would be changed from 2018 to 2019. Some of the designs from the collection are dedicated to symbols of Great Britain like Angel of the North, tea, fish and chips, cricket, the Loch Ness monster, Zebra Crossing, to name a few. W is for World Wide Web which was invented by Tim Berners-Lee, G represents Greenwich Mean Time, which recognizes Britain’s naval history and global timescale. Uncirculated versions of the coins are also being sold online.
These are Royal Mint’s first commemorative coins of the denomination 10 pence. It would be challenging to put together a collection of all coins from this series as the mintage limits are very low. A 2019 A to Z collector album is also available for purchase. People can also visit the Royal Mint Experience in Llantrisant, Wales to avail these special coins from the cash registers at the gift shop and coffee shop.
