“Save Tiger Drive” Celebrates 43rd Year of its Foundation

Save the Tiger Project is a Tiger Conservation Programme launched in 1973 by the Government of India during the tenure of Prime Minister, Mrs. Indira Gandhi. The Tiger Census held in the year of 1972 showed an alarming reduction of the Tiger population in the country.Hence, to save the National Animal of the Country, The Government of India initiated this project. The project aims at ensuring the population of Tigers, protect them from extinction as well as preserving their habitats.
Beginning in Bengal, the project widely spread all over the world within a decade. On the 10th Anniversary, the Government of India issued a special stamp commemorating the completion of 10 years of the Project.
The stamp comes in the denomination of Rs. 2 and features a tiger in its natural habitat.
