2019-02-25 Mon
Liberation of North Korea from Japanese Rule was one of the important turning points in the history of the country. To celebrate this occasion a set of three stamps was issued by North Korean post.Korea under Japanese rule began with the end of the short-lived Korean Empire in 1910 and ended at the conclusion of World War II in 1945. After the defeat and surrender of Japan to the Allied forces at the end of the Second World War, Korea returned to self-government, forming two separate governments and economic systems backed by the Soviet Union in the north and by the United States in the south.
A couple of years later, on 20th June 1950, the North Korean Post issued a set of three stamps to commemorate the Anniversary of Liberation from Japanese Rule. The stamps bear the following themes.
2 won stamp – A soldier standing in the centre holding a gun. On the background, two flags are seen one of North Korea and the other of Soviet Russia.
