Coinage of Karam Singh of Patiala State

Patiala Princely State was the largest, wealthiest and the most populated state of Phulkian, Punjab. The rulers claimed their origin from the Bhatti family of Jaisalmer, Jaisal. The state was founded by Ala Singh, the chief of one of the Phulkian families, in 1753.Karam Singh ruled the Patiala from 1813 to 1845 AD. He issued gold and silver coin during the reign. These gold coins were struck from Patiala and Sahrind mint in the denomination of Mohur, Nazarana Rupee, and Rupee.
Above shown Gold Mohur which weighs around 10.64g issued during his reign in the name of Ahmed Shah Durrani. The obverse of the coin is inscribed with Persian Couplet for Ahmed Shah Durrani while the reverse of the coin depicts ‘Suaad’ within the ‘seen’ of julus and 3 pointed leaf to right
