Silver Rupee of Broach Princely State

Broach or Bharuch was a Princely State located in the western part of India during the British Raj. The state of Broach has a very interesting history. Up to the 5th century, Chandragupta Vikramaditya and other kings of the Gupta dynasty ruled over here. Later it came under the Gurjar ancestry and then under the Rajputs. It was later taken over by the Mughals followed by the British.Imtaya-ud-Daula ruled the state from 1768 to 1772 AD. During the reign he issued silver and copper coins. These coins were issued in the denomination of Rupee and Paisa in round shape.
Depicted above is a silver Rupee issued in the reign Imtaya-ud-Daula. This coin was issued in the name of Shah Alam. The obverse of a coin has a name of Shah Alam while reverse depicted with RY date, Mint name and Julus formula.
