Every year 4th February is observed as World Cancer Day all over the world. This day is celebrated to raise awareness of this deadly disease and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment.Cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells anywhere in a body. Untreated cancers can spread into the surrounding normal tissue, or to other parts of the body, and cause serious illness, disability, and death.
Cancer in all forms is causing about 12 percent of deaths throughout the world. The primary goal of the World Cancer Day is to significantly reduce illness and death caused by cancer.
India post has issued a postage stamp on cancer awareness day to spread an important message on subjects of interest and relevance to the common man. The stamp symbolizes a woman carrying out Breast Self Examination for detection of Cancer.
