Rare Newfoundland Airmail Cover to be Auctioned

Eastern Auctions of Bathurst will be organising their next auction in two parts at the Lord Nelson Hotel and Suites, 1515 South Park St., Halifax, Nova Scotia. On 14th February, part 2 of the Highlands collection of British North America would be offered, while on 15th and 16th February, the auction house’s general sale of British North America, Canada classic stamps, modern errors, revenues, specialized collections and estates will take place.Several rare and classic British North America would be up for sale. One of the highlights is an airmail cover called Martinsyde from Newfoundland which was sent in 1919. This philatelic item is a part of the Highlands collection.
The cover is named after the aircraft that carried it. It has two 2¢ carmine red Caribou stamps. One stamp features the text “Aerial Atlantic Mail” and “JAR” initials. It’s considered to be a rare 2¢ variety.
The airmail was sold by Harmers of London for 2003. It’s the rarest type of Newfoundland Air Mails. Enzo Diena had shared his expert views about the airmail in 1988. It is being offered at an estimated value of $100,000 Canadian.
