Guyana, the South American country, issued 4 stamps on the theme of Holi – way back in 1969! In India, Holi is celebrated as a change of seasons from winter to spring. Besides, this festival of colours also has many mythological connotations.A large Hindu community resides in Guyana and celebrates the Hindu festivals. With a sizeable Bihari population residing here, Holi has become so popular in the country that the Guyana Post issued a set of four stamps featuring the Indian festival of colours.
Printed with a face value of 6, 25, 30 and 40 cents, the stamps depict Lord Krishna celebrating the festival of colours with gopikas. The stamps of values 6 cents and 30 cents depict Lord Krishna playing Holi with the gopis whereas the stamps of 25 cents and 40 cents show Radha and Krishna celebrating Holi.
The stamps show beautiful vibrant colours and vivid expressions - especially on the stamps of Radha and Krishna.
