Death Anniversary of Rash Behari Bose

The great revolutionary leader of India, Rashbehari Bose breathed his last on 21st January 1945. His role in the freedom struggle remains relatively unknown in popular history.One of the unsung heroes of the Indian freedom movement, Rash behari Bose was born on May25, 1886 in Bardhaman, West Bengal. He got involved in the revolution against the British from a very early age and was implicated in the Alipore bomb case. After release from jail, he went to Dehradun join as a head clerk at the Forest Research Institute.
He performed a key role in establishing the India Independence League, Ghadhar Mutiny, and Indian National Army. He also involved in the assassination of Lord Harding. Following this he was forced to go into hiding. He escaped from India in 1915 and lived in Japan. In 1943 he handed over the charge of Azad Hind Fauj to Subhash Chandra Bose.
His sacrifices and organisational skills formed a big part in India's struggle for independence. He passed away in Japan on the 21st January 1945 at the age of 60years. Japanese Government honoured him with ‘Second order of the Merit of the Rising Sun’.
The Post and Telegraphs Department issued a special postage stamp in honour of Rash Behari Bose on the 26th December 1967.
