Arctic Fox and Arctic Hare on 2016 Canadian Gold Coins
2016-03-29 Tue
Royal Canadian Mint once again shows its openness to depict something very unique and interesting on coins. The latest gold coin portrays an Arctic fox and an Arctic hare. They cost about US $60 and are made of 0.5 grams of 99.99% pure gold. These animals have adapted beautifully to the extreme Arctic weather conditions and they play vital roles in maintaining a perfect equilibrium in nature.
The reverse is designed by Canadian artist Pierre Leduc which gives us a side-profile view of an Arctic fox along with the inscriptions ‘CANADA’, ‘2016’ and ‘25 CENTS’.
The obverse features Susanna Blunt’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II with the inscriptions ‘ELIZABETH II’ and ‘D G REGINA’.
