The banknote depicted beside is a 20 Pound Sterling banknote issued in 2007. The obverse has a portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II at right against the background of the building of Bank of England. In the lower left corner is a Bank seal with the logo of Bank of England. Denominations in numerals and words are in top corners and in the centre respectively.The reverse has the bust of Adam Smith in profile. Adam Smith is one of the fathers of modern economics. The engraving on the banknote is made after the "paste medallion" portrait of Adam Smith created by Scottish gem engraver and modeller James Tassie in 1787. It is entitled "Adam Smith in his 64th year, 1787. Tassie F.
The note has the signature of Andrew Bailey, Chief Cashier of the Bank of England. With texts “Bank of England; I Promise to Pay the Bearer on Demand the Sum of Twenty Pounds; London, for the Governor and Company of the Bank of England.
