Emir Abd-ar-Rahman III established the Caliphate of Cordoba

The Caliphate of Cordoba was a state in Islamic Iberia along with a part of North Africa. On 16th January 929, a member of Umayyad dynasty, Abd-ar-Rahman III proclaimed himself Caliph and established the Caliphate of Cordoba.He ascended the throne in his early 20s and reigned for half a century as the most powerful prince of Iberia. Due to his consolidation of power, Muslim of Iberia became a powerful for a few centuries. It also brought prosperity, and with this he created mints where pure gold and silver coins were created.
Represent here is a silver Dirham issued during his reign. The obverse of a coin showed the Arabic legend ‘La Ilaha Illallah Wahdahu Lashirikalahu’ within centre and ‘Bismilla Haza Dirham Madinat al-zahra Sanah’ around. The reverse of a coin showed the legend ‘Al Imam Al Nasir-ud-Din Amir-al-Mominin Qaism’.
