Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg to Release New Commemorative Coins

The 25th anniversary of the European Monetary Institute will be celebrated by Belgium by releasing a commemorative €2 coin. It will depict a portrait of the first president of the EMI, Alexandre Lamfalussy, his name, the short form EMI, year-date 1994 (when the institute was founded). The EMI worked towards setting up the European System of Central Banks, like the European Central Bank and Euro Currency. 155,000 such coins will be circulated in January.The 70th anniversary of the legislative body in Germany, Bundesrat will be commemorated with the release of €2 German coins. The coin will feature the Bundesrat building, Mint mark of the respective mint (A, D, F, G or J), the artist’s initials, year-date 2019, inscription BUNDESRAT and Germany’s issuing country code D. All five mints would be releasing 6 million coins each. They would be released during the World Money Fair in Berlin on 31st January or 1st February.
The 100th anniversary of the reign of Grand Duchess Charlotte will be commemorated with the release of special €2 coins by Luxembourg. The coin will depict realistic images of the Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Charlotte. The inscription translates to “Centenary of the accession to the throne of Grand Duchess Charlotte”. 500,000 such coins will be released in January.
The 8.5 grams ringed-bimetallic coin has a diameter of 25.75 millimetres. It has a copper-nickel core and copper-aluminium-nickel ring. The reverse side of all coins features a map of the European Union.
