2019-01-14 Mon
On 7th January, the Royal Mint launched the Sovereign 2019 Gold Bullion and the Half-Sovereign 2019 Gold Bullion Coins. Both the coins belong to the Sovereign 2019 collection of the Royal Mint. The first Sovereign coin of Royal Mint was struck in the year 1489. Over the years, its production was halted, it was later reintroduced, and its designs have been modified. However, it gained a lot of respect all over the world for its accuracy and integrity.10th January marked the 200th anniversary of the Ricardo Ingot plan. As per the plan, circulating gold coins were replaced with a 60oz ingot. Due to the First World War, the production of Sovereign coins was halted in 1917. Today, they are extremely popular among collectors and they wait for the new release every year eagerly.
These gold coins are free from additional charges such as VAT and Capital Gains Tax. Investors have the option to store them at the Royal Mint Vault which is highly secure. Investors can liquidate their coins anytime. Specifications such as weight and purity of the 22-carat gold coin are assured and approved by the UK government.
Royal Mint officials stated that the Sovereign Coin has been a vital part of Britain’s history. It has not only survived but also has been a symbol of trust even in times of trouble. Today, it has become the safest and most convenient investment option for people which is generally unaffected by market trends.
The coin features Benedetto Pistrucci’s classic design of St George and the dragon. The same design was used on the first ever Sovereigns that were struck during the reign of George III in 1817. The obverse side of the coin depicts the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Jody Clark.
The 7.98 grams Gold Bullion Coin has a diameter of 22.05 millimetres while the 3.99 grams Half-Sovereign Gold Bullion Coin has a diameter of 19.3 millimetres. Both coins are made of 916.7 pure gold and both of them have a milled edge.
