The Allied occupation by the four powers that defeated Nazi Germany resulted in the creation of four major post-war occupation zones in 1945. The area of Thuringen was under the Soviet Occupation. These zones had their own postal services and issued their own postal stamps. On 27th April 1946, the Soviet Zone in Thuringen issued a set of four stamps depicting the famous authors of Germany.
The 6 German reichspfennig stamp depicts Schiller. Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller was a German poet, philosopher, physician, historian, and playwright.
The stamp worth 10 German reichspfennig honors Goethe. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was a German writer and statesman.
Liszt was honoured on a stamp denominated 12 German reichspfennig. Franz Liszt was a prolific 19th-century Hungarian composer, virtuoso pianist, conductor, music teacher, arranger, organist, philanthropist, author, nationalist and a Franciscan during the Romantic era.
The Stamp with the highest denomination of 16 German reichspfennig portrays Wieland. Christoph Martin Wieland was a German poet and writer known for his work in psychological characters.
