The only stamp of the Republic of Hawaii was issued on 27 October 1894 which has a very fascinating story.

Hawaii went through five-stage transition from monarchy to 50th state of the United States created a one-of-a-kind postal history. In merely 40 years the postal history of Hawaii underwent radical transitions and gave world a unique history.

The fourth stage of Hawaiian history brought about new political changes. The Republic of Hawaii was established on July 4, 1894, and the republican government issued a set of stamps in 1894. This set of six stamps features coat of arms, landscape, statue, national symbol etc.

The most unique of all is a 12 cent stamp featuring steam ship that carried the mail of the country. The stamp depicts the steamship in the centre with a half oval around inscribed with “Republic of Hawaii. The value is seen at the bottom decorated with the motifs of leaves. This stamp is the only Hawaiian postage stamp bearing the "Republic of Hawaii" name.

The last stamps for Hawaii were issued in 1899. At the turn of the century, Hawaii was declared US territory. From now on, stamps were US postage with or without a Hawaii theme. In 1959 Hawaii became the 50th State.
