2016-03-23 Wed
A silver coin dedicated to the ninth of all the animals in the Chinese Zodiac was released by Mongolia. This is the first Mongolian Lunar issue and it released to celebrate the amazing Year of the Monkey! The coin is made of 25 g pure silver 999 boasting its black proof. This shiny silver piece featuring the lucky symbol of 2016 has got the symbolic mintage of 2016 pieces worldwide.
The obverse depicts the Bank of Mongolia emblem and the face value of the coin, its weight and metal fineness. The reverse shows a monkey in the centre and the inscription "Year of the Monkey" on top of the coin. Close to the monkey the issue date and the Chinese symbol for the monkey.
The coin is struck as a ‘black proof’, and it also uses a new striking technique called HiCarv which appears to concentrate a section of ultra-high relief on a single part of the coin and with a different look, almost like it was rough-hewn from granite.
