Ram Manohar Lohia an activist for the Indian independence movement and a nationalist political leader was born on 23rd March 1910.He was a founder member of the Congress Socialist Party in 1934 and was the first Editor of the weekly "Congress Socialist". He also became secretary of the Foreign Department of the Indian National Congress.
He was a staunch advocate of socialism, a fighter and believer of social justice. The Posts and Telegraphs Department have issued an INR 25 and an INR 1 commemorative stamps in 1977 and an INR 5 definitive stamp in 2015 in honour of this influential leader of India.
