New Features of Latest Bulgarian banknotes

Bulgaria released a new series of banknotes with better security features. The important design elements and basic features have been retained. The first banknote of the new series bears the denomination BGN 100 and will be put into circulation on 28th December 2018.The obverse depicts a portrait of the writer Aleko Konstantinov, elements related to the tourist movement in Bulgaria, the title page of the book "To Chicago and back", "Aleko Konstantinov" and "1863-1897" printed vertically, and the denomination in digits and words. The reverse depicts elements related to the life and work of the writer Aleko Konstantinov, and denomination in numeral and words.
The 141 x 79 mm banknote is predominantly green in colour. It is produced on tinted green paper which is lacquered after printing. The note has five thick and six thin lines located at an angle to help the visually impaired people identify denominations.
The colours of edelweiss and holographic-portrait of Aleko Konstantinov change upon tilting the note. Details from a monument of Aleko Konstantinov changes from emerald green to sapphire blue upon tilting. A three-dimensional image of number 100 has a dynamic chess effect and changes from emerald green to sapphire blue upon tilting the note.
Security thread has a repeating text "BNB 100" which can be seen when the note is held against a light source. It also has a dynamic chess effect and changes from emerald green to sapphire blue. The watermark features a high-resolution halftone image of Aleko Konstantinov’s portrait which can be seen on both sides of the note when it’s held against a light source.
