Bank of Mauritius Releases New 2000 Rupee Polymer Banknote
2018-12-13 Thu
Bank of Mauritius launched a new 2000 Rupee banknote that’s printed on De La Rue’s polymer substrate called Safeguard. The existing security features have been retained and new ones like Mask feature and Illuminate design technique have been applied. By adopting these innovative measures, security and durability of the notes will be greatly enhanced.Through the Illuminate technique, different inks like matte and iridescent inks are injected into the polymer window. Unlimited window designs can be created using this technique. These vibrant artworks can improve end-user recognition and public authentication. The hand-engraved portrait of the earlier Prime Minister of Mauritius, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, related patterns, microprint, secure inks, size and colour scheme remain unchanged in the newly released note.
De La Rue’s polymer substrate, Safeguard was launched in 2012. This release would be their 35th banknote to be printed using the substrate. De La Rue had also printed its first ever banknote for the Government of Mauritius in 1860 and the long-term relationship continues with the latest release.
