Remembering the legendary actress Smita Patil

Smita Patil the legendary film actress of Indian cinema breathed her last on 13th December 1986. A brilliant actress celebrated for her portrayal of strong characters in Indian Cinema in the 1970s and 1980s.Smita Patil, A face that expressed a thousand emotions, appeared in over 80 Hindi and Marathi Films. Patil was born on 17th October 1955 in Pune. A student of Film and Television Institute of India, she worked as a television newscaster in Doordarshan for a short while.
She made her first debut with an appearance in the film Charandas Chor in 1975. Later, she also appeared in numerous legendary films such as Manthan, Bhumika, Aakrosh, Chakra, Chidambaram, and Ghulami.
In 1977, she won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in the Hindi film Bhumika. During her career, she received two National Film Awards and a Filmfare Award.
In 1985, she was honored with the fourth highest civilian award Padma Shree by the Government of India. Smita Patil was only 31 when she passed away on 13th Dec 1986, leaving behind a legacy in Indian cinema that can’t be filled.
In commemoration of 100 years of Indian Cinema, India Post released a set of stamps depicting 50 iconic film personalities. Among them Smita Patil the evergreen actress was also included.
