The Medal of Honour is one of the highest and most prestigious military decorations awarded by the United States of America to U.S. military service members who have distinguished themselves by an act of Valour. It is awarded to the member of the armed force. This medal is awarded by the President of United States of America in the name of U.S Congress; because this medal is presented in the name of Congress. Therefore; this medal is also referred to as the ‘Congressional Medal of Honour’. But; however, it is currently awarded its official name ‘Medal of Honour’.The medal was first authorized in 1861 for Sailors and Marines, and the following year for Soldiers as well. Since then, more than 3,400 Medals of Honour have been awarded to members of all DoD services and the Coast Guard.
