Princely State Gwalior Silver Rupee

This silver rupee which weighs around 10.9g was issued from the Princely States Gwalior in the name of Mughal Emperor Sham Alam II.Gwalior was a Princely State during the British rule in India. The state took its name from the old town of Gwalior, though it was never its capital, it was an important place because of its strategic location and the strength of its forts. The ruling family of Gwalior was Sindhias; they were the descendants of Marathas chief Ranoji Sindhia. Ranoji Sindhia was the Maratha chief of the Peshwas of Poona in 1750. After the defeat of Peshwas in the Battle of Panipat by Ahmad Shah Durrani, the dominion of the State of Gwalior was completely shifted in the hands of Sindhia.
This very rare Silver Rupee was issued from the mint Alamgirpur in the name of Shah Alam II. This coin is listed for INR 25,000 at Todywalla Auction which will be held in Pune on 16th December 2018.
