Sikandar Shah’s silver Tanka of Chawalistan Urf Arsah Kamru mint

One of the most prominent Sultans of Bengal Sultanate, Sikandar Bin Ilyas Shah ruled the Ilyas Shahi dynasty for almost 32 years from 1357 to 1389 AD. He became a second Sultan to rule the Bengal Sultanate after overthrowing his father Sultan Sham-al-Din Ilyas Shah.Sikandar Shah issued beautiful gold and silver coins during the reign in the denomination of Tanka and in their different fractions. Some of the mints are Baldat al-Mahrusah Firuzabad, Iqlim Mu'azzamabad, Hazrat Jalal Sunargaon, Khitta Satgaon, and Shahr-i-Nau etc.
One his silver Tanka was sold for INR 18,300 by Classical Numismatic Gallery. The obverse of a coin showed the Arabic legend ‘al-Sultan al-'Azam Abu al-Mujahid Sikandar Shah IbnIlyas Shah al-Sultan’. The reverse depicts the legend ‘Yameen Khalifat Allah Nasir Amir al-Mumineen Zall Allah Khilafatahu’ within a circle and mint and date details in the margin.
