2018-12-06 Thu
On 25th February 1965, Gabon issued a special stamp to commemorate the “International Quiet Sun Year” – a unique event observed by many countries in the world.International Years of the Quiet Sun (IQSY) is a program of coordinated observations and studies of solar activity and related geophysical phenomena conducted at a time of minimum solar activity (during the “quiet” sun). Scientific institutions from more than 70 countries participated in the IQSY program, carried out in 1964 and 1965. I order to memorialize the event many countries issued special stamps.
The Republic of Gabon issued a stamp with the denomination of 85 Central African CFA francs. The stamp depicts a beautiful illustration of the sun on a calm purple background with the name of the country at the bottom.
The Circular logo of the event at the right reads “ANEE INTERNATIONALE DU SOLEIL CALME (International Years of the Quiet Sun)” and the years 1964-1965.
